Tradie Website Case Studies
Tradie Case Study Carpentry.
The guys from VDS Carpentry wanted to work for themselves.
Sub-contracting to builders on the Central Coast was keeping them busy, but the long term plan was to find a way so they could build their own business working directly with local businesses and residents.
Looking for long term results they decided to get their website up and running.
Phase 1 – Keyword Research
We started where we always start with the keyword research
We want to find out what the most popular search terms people use when looking for a carpenter, and more importantly what services are people looking for when they want work done on their house?
Wanting to target the right type of client, the keyword research was targeted to their preferred services, such as extensions, decks, pergolas, kitchen & bathroom renovations.
More research discovered a few more key search terms and we could see website layout coming together.
Phase 2 – Website Design
Websites designed to rank and perform
We don’t just do keyword research either…
… there’s a bunch of industry and product information we can gather by doing some research on the competitors. This shows us all the other keywords our competitors are ranking for – very interesting stuff.
We also get to see the strength of the competitors, for the primary keyword “carpenters central coast” we were up against the local directory sites.
The typical Oneflare, YellowPages, HiPages and Gumtree, all very strong, authority sites.
With the copywriter working on the content, and VDS team pulling together some work, project photos and images, we could then get a start building out the website.
We started with the company pages, such as About Us, Contact Us, & Terms & Services which are critical to developing trust with new site visitors, as well as telling Google that this is a reputable business.
Next up are the Home page and service description pages are the heavy weight pages. These pages are built to rank and convert.
Service page layout includes:
These pages take more time, they need to include strong, keyword rich content that reads well and encourages new visitors to pick up the phone and call for a quote.
They also need media-rich content with well optimised images, headers, body text and meta data included as well as some carefully planned inter-site linking.
Phase 3 – SEO Campaign
Page 1 Results in Less Than 4 Months
Once the website is completed the search marketing campaign begins and within a couple of months the website is moving from page 4 through to page 2.
After 4 months the page hits page 1, and the customer calls to see if we can stop the SEO.
We don’t’ need any more calls, we’re struggling to deal with the work we’ve got right now.
Whilst the Search campaign hits pause, the website continues to improve it’s position and within 6 months, the site hist #3 on the first page for the primary keyword “carpenters central coast”.
Other first page results include:
Pergolas Central Coast
The search term “pergolas central coast” is a great keyword to rank for and is highly competitive with some major pergola companies that have been operating in this area for many years.
This is a great result and a few successful leads for this search term will more than pay for the cost of the new website and search marketing campaign.
Decks Central Coast
A great result for this client in such a short time frame. The website was rebuilt and ranking on page 1 for several key search terms within a 4 – 6 month timeframe.
The site continues in improve is position and has been generating good customer leads for our Central Coast chippies VDS.
